Books of Magic #8

Part of DC's Sandman Universe line, Books of Magic #8 brings a haunting, otherworldly beauty to this 2019 Vertigo series. Kai Carpenter's cover painting draws you in immediately — a pale, dark-haired woman with striking teal eyes and a jeweled green diadem stares out from a swirl of dark hair, tiny luminous faeries drifting around her like living embers. The story title, "Out of This Wood Do Not Desire to Go," hints at enchanted, perhaps perilous territory — and with Kat Howard writing and Tom Fowler among the artists inside, this issue promises the same lyrical, unsettling magic the series does so well.
