“Crossroads”

The tagline says it all — "This Monster Unleashed!" — as the cover by Angel Medina and Bill Anderson puts a snarling, white-maned figure front and center, lunging forward in a blue and gold costume with fangs bared and energy crackling around him. Looming in the background are a massive, imposing powerhouse and a figure wreathed in lightning, while a cluster of additional characters crowd the edges, hinting at a cast full of conflict. "Crossroads" is a fitting title for this 1994 Marvel series still finding its footing, and this second issue already promises the kind of sprawling, kinetic energy that defined mid-decade superhero comics at their most ambitious.
