Blackhawk #84

From Quality Comics' January 1955 issue, this cover by Dick Dillin and Chuck Cuidera puts Blackhawk front and center — uniformed, determined, and leaping atop a red amphibious vehicle as a bald enemy gunman fires point-blank at him. Behind them, a massive man-made tidal wave tears through buildings and sends a group of uniformed soldiers scrambling for their lives, while the familiar portrait heads of the Blackhawk Squadron ring the top of the cover. The cover copy promises "The End of Blackhawk Island" — a high-stakes threat that, paired with that churning wall of water, makes this one of the more visually gripping issues of the run.
