Blackhawk #19 from Quality Comics (June 1948) puts the square-jawed, blue-uniformed hero front and center, tommy gun in hand and mouth open mid-shout against a bold red background — a cover by Reed Crandall that practically crackles with urgency. The tagline "Calls for Action!" says it all, and Crandall's confident linework delivers a Blackhawk who looks every bit as determined as the story inside — "The Creations of Dr. Omega" — promises to be.
