“Master of Mankind”

In "Master of Mankind," set during the Korean War, Colonel Bill Dawson and Captain Jim Carroll find their rivalry for a woman back home tested when Dawson assigns Carroll to lead a crucial bombing mission. Though Carroll is the unit’s top flight commander, he can’t shake the feeling that the assignment carries a deeper, more personal weight than military necessity. Written by Robert Bernstein and illustrated by Sam Citron, with a cover by Dick Dillin and Chuck Cuidera, this 1956 issue captures the tension between duty and distrust in the cockpit and beyond.
