☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains three feature-length stories. The lead story features Black Diamond stopping criminals who have loaded a wagon with dynamite and are attempting to ambush him, culminating in an explosion. A second story involves Buck Roper protecting a woman named Dixie from criminals who threaten her life, with Buck ultimately apprehending the villains. The third story, "Red Fire," depicts Native Americans seeking help from a white man to stop a criminal named Nevin from stealing cattle, requiring a nighttime sneak attack on the depot to prevent the theft.
When Black Diamond passes through Squatter's Ridge in the summer of 1878, he befriends a young boy and stands up to the town's bullying Mayor Mallory—only to be called away on urgent military business at Fort McKenna. Left behind to watch over things, Black Diamond's ally Red Fire discovers that Mallory has seized control of the town and forced an old prospector named Hank Beldon into a partnership after Hank strikes gold. Now Black Diamond must race back to town before Mallory's schemes destroy everything he fought to protect.
Red Fire, a young drifter with an unlikely ally in his dog Devil, takes a job with rancher Chuck Nevin to help drive 5,000 head of cattle to market before an impossible deadline—but ruthless Kyle Manson, who controls the territory, has already hired away every available hand and poisoned the water holes to stop them. With ingenuity and unexpected help, Red Fire must outmaneuver Manson's schemes and keep the herd moving toward the depot.
