Black Canary #5
Black Canary finds herself in a precarious spot on this May 1993 cover — her signature blonde hair and fishnet-and-leather look front and center as she recoils from a menacing dark figure wielding what appears to be a blade, all framed against the striking visual anchor of an enormous black tulip. The composition by Trevor Von Eeden is genuinely arresting, that oversized flower casting a gothic shadow over the action while hinting at the intrigue promised by the story title "Blynde Woman's Bluff, Part One." It's a compelling setup for what looks to be a stylish, street-level mystery from the creative team of Byam, Von Eeden, and Smith.
