When Billy the Kid falls to Pat Garrett's guns, his young first cousin—also named Billy Bonney—inherits both the family name and its ruined reputation. After the sheriff strips Billy the Kid of his gun following a forced gunfight with Rafe Weaver, the young outlaw finds himself vulnerable to old enemies Babe and Link Heiken, who see an opening to settle their score with their fists. When a concerned townsperson intervenes and publicly shames the sheriff for his treatment of Billy, the lawman's political concerns force him to reconsider how far he'll push the Kid.
