“Memorable Junk!”

Summer on the water turns into a splashdown spectacular on this September 1990 cover from Archie Series, penciled by Dan DeCarlo and inked by Rudy Lapick: a red-haired Archie goes tumbling off his jet ski — cheekily named "Doughnut" — while Betty steadies herself on a wave runner nearby, the whole scene punctuated by Betty's diary entry explaining exactly why that nickname fits. The small inset panel in the upper left hints at the wider Riverdale cast waiting inside, and the punchline delivers the kind of breezy, sun-soaked humor that made this series a warm-weather staple.

writer Kathleen Webb · artist Bob Bolling · inker Mike Esposito · letterer Bill Yoshida · cover Dan DeCarlo, Rudy Lapick
