Patrick Horvath's Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees continues with issue #2, and this cover alone earns a second look: a pig woman in a red cardigan and boots pauses coffee in hand before the window of "Hopping Block Butchery," where the display of pig heads makes the scene quietly, brilliantly unsettling. A boar-headed figure in a varsity jacket watches nearby as other anthropomorphic townsfolk stroll past, the whole thing rendered in Horvath's warm, deceptively cozy illustration style that makes the dark undercurrent land even harder. Lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, this IDW series is already proving itself one of 2023's most intriguing reads.
