Before the Fantastic Four: The Storms #1

This 2000 Marvel miniseries opener takes readers back to the early days of Johnny Storm and Sue Storm, before they ever joined the Fantastic Four. Charles Adlard's cover drops the two young Storms right into the thick of danger — a wide-eyed Johnny clutching what appears to be a flaming torch and Sue in her blue dress looking equally alarmed, while a looming horde of skull-faced, glowing-eyed figures closes in around them from the shadows. Writer Terry Kavanagh and artist Charlie Adlard promise a story — titled "Burn Victims" — that's clearly going to put these future Marvel heroes through their paces long before cosmic rays ever entered the picture.
