Dynamite Entertainment's war anthology Battlefields reaches its third issue with a cover by Carlos Ezquerra that pulls no punches: a battle-hardened sergeant in a beret crouches atop a tank, gripping a light machine gun with spent brass scattered around him, while behind him waves of infantry advance through a landscape ablaze with fire and smoke. The tagline "The Tankies Go Out Fighting in The Green Fields Beyond" sets the tone perfectly for Garth Ennis's story "Death Ride," promising the kind of gritty, boots-on-the-ground WWII drama that the series does so well. If you appreciate war comics with genuine weight and craft, this one belongs on your reading list.
