8 pp · War

When every officer in his company is killed or wounded, Corporal Carl Brady is forced to take command and lead the exhausted remnants of his unit up a heavily fortified gully on the German border in February 1945. Armed with nothing but his wits and determination, Brady scouts the enemy positions under cover of darkness to find a way through the minefield and machine-gun emplacements that guard the ridge. With the fate of the regiment hanging in the balance, Brady must devise a tactical solution to silence the Nazi guns and get his men up that ridge alive.

An American patrol surrenders so easily to the Nazis that they're branded as cowards and shipped to a maximum-security POW camp—but their meekness masks a deeper purpose. Sergeant Dixon and his five specially trained volunteers have infiltrated Stalag 38 to orchestrate a breakout, and what begins as a secret tunnel operation becomes something far more ambitious when weapons arrive from outside. As dawn breaks over the camp, the prisoners transform from broken men into armed combatants, and the escape becomes a fight to reclaim France itself.

The Colonel's Reunion
7 pp · War

Retired Colonel Samuel G. Lufton is running an oil pumping station deep in the African interior when a ruthless communist militia led by Major Li Yeng begins terrorizing the region—and him specifically. Lufton hatches a daring plan: he invites his old scout platoon, now scattered across the world in civilian life, to what they think is a reunion, but which is really a call to arms. When the men arrive and Li Yeng's forces close in, the Colonel and his former soldiers prove that some bonds—and some skills—never really fade away.
