Batman / The Maxx: Arkham Dreams #4

The fourth chapter of this DC/IDW crossover event finds two very different titans in striking opposition — Batman exploding through a cascade of shattering glass above, cape shredded and fists ready, while the massive purple form of the Maxx crouches below, cradling what appears to be a crescent moon with quiet, strange intensity. Sam Kieth's cover work captures exactly the creative tension that makes Arkham Dreams so compelling: raw superhero kinetics colliding with the Maxx's surreal, dreamlike weight. It's a pairing that shouldn't work on paper but absolutely does, and this penultimate issue promises the collision is only getting stranger.
