This 2009 hardcover collects the 2005 one-shot Batman: The Man Who Laughs, written by Ed Brubaker with art by Doug Mahnke. The story reimagines Batman's first encounter with the Joker, drawing inspiration from the 1940 original tale in Batman #1. It also includes the backup story from Detective Comics #784, 'Made of Wood,' featuring the first meeting between Batman and the Green Lantern Alan Scott.
