Batman: The Knight was announced by DC Comics in October 2021 as a 10-issue limited series written by Chip Zdarsky — fresh off his acclaimed Daredevil run — and illustrated by Carmine Di Giandomenico, with colors by Ivan Plascencia and lettering by Pat Brosseau. The series launched in January 2022 and ran at monthly intervals through late 2022, receiving widespread critical praise for finding new emotional and psychological ground in a superhero origin story that had been extensively documented before. Zdarsky described the project as deliberately occupying the 'in-between' years that Frank Miller's Batman: Year One left unexplored, and he and Di Giandomenico engaged in significant early collaboration on tone and page layout before finding a shared visual language for the book. Issue #8 was released on August 16, 2022, and collected alongside the rest of the series in both hardcover and softcover trade editions.
