Greg Pak and Jae Lee's New 52 team-up series hits its third chapter with a cover that sets an ominous tone: a younger Superman, cape billowing and eyes glowing red, reels backward beneath a massive crystalline shard in which a monstrous, red-eyed creature looms — its cracked, grotesque face dominating the composition. Batman lurks in the shadows behind the shard, cape spread wide against a sickly yellow-green sky, a watchful presence in the chaos. Jae Lee's moody, painterly cover work makes this 2013 issue a compelling entry in the World's Finest pairing.
