Batman: Shadow of the Bat #89

Set against a blood-red sky amid the rubble of Gotham's No Man's Land, this September 1999 installment finds Batman locked in a fierce struggle with a massive, grotesque figure who dwarfs him in size — the sheer physical mismatch making the confrontation all the more gripping. Mat Broome's pencils and Sean Parsons' inks deliver a dynamic, visceral composition, with Batman's cape billowing as he fights back against his hulking opponent while a bound figure slumps in the foreground. Ian Edginton, Jason Minor, and Sal Buscema bring "The King" to life in what looks to be one of the grittier chapters of DC's landmark No Man's Land saga.
