“Chapitre 1”

In "Chapitre 1" of *Batman – La dernière sentinelle*, an aged and scarred Batman ventures to England after a Gotham-to-London flight is destroyed, its passengers dead and the perpetrators claiming responsibility for the attack. With his strength diminished and a new Squire at his side, he must confront the spectral threat of the Gentleman Ghost while shielding Beryl from a renewed assault by those who see him as a target. Written by Tom Taylor and Xavier Hanart, with striking art by Andy Kubert and colors by Brad Anderson, this issue marks a pivotal moment in a future where the Dark Knight’s legacy is both legacy and burden. The cover, also by Andy Kubert, captures the weight of that moment in shadow and steel.

In the future, an older, battle-weary Batman travels to England to investigate when a Gotham-to-London flight is brought down killing all on board, with the killers indicating that they initiated the crash because of Batman. With the Knight injured in the attack, Batman teams with the new Squire to battle the Gentleman Ghost and also to defend Beryl against a return attack by the killers.
