Rain-drenched and vertigo-inducing, Brian Bolland's cover for this July 2001 issue drops readers onto a rain-slicked industrial girder high above Gotham, where Batman crouches in predatory pursuit of a gun-wielding figure in a red bandana — while a second black-clad figure dangles perilously below the structure. Devin Grayson, Roger Robinson, and John Floyd bring "Matatoa Part 2 of 2" to its conclusion inside, and the cover's tension-loaded standoff sets an appropriately nerve-wracking tone. A fine chapter in this fan-favorite Bat-title from 2001.
