Batman: Gotham Adventures #60

The Clown Prince of Crime has never looked more menacing than on this cover by Bob Smith and Terry Beatty — a grinning Joker holds a lit match toward Batman's face while a shadowy, purple-tinged figure looms ominously in the background, and the tagline "Going Out with a Bang!" sets an appropriately ominous tone. It's a wonderfully tense face-off rendered in the crisp, animated style that made Batman: Gotham Adventures such a delight throughout its run. Issue #60 from 2003 closes out this series with a story called "Leaves," and if this cover is any indication, the creative team of Peterson, Levins, and Beatty sent it off in fine fashion.
