As Blackfire orders his men to execute him in the bathing room, Batman escapes and vanishes into the dark tunnels below. Robin eventually locates him atop a mound of corpses, silent and resolute.

When Robin reaches out for help, the Dark Knight must pull himself back from the edge—just in time to lead the boy hero to safety. As they emerge from the tunnels, Batman makes a final decision: they’re leaving Gotham, and not coming back.
