About this Collection

Batman núm. 1/131 (ECC Ediciones, March 2023) marks the Spanish-language debut of the Chip ZdarskyJorge Jiménez era on DC's flagship Batman title, making the creative handover accessible to Spanish-speaking audiences for the first time in grapa format. The underlying original issue (Batman #125, July 2022) launched 'Failsafe,' a story arc that introduced a new villain built as a dark mirror of Batman himself — a robotic anti-Batman designed to counter the Dark Knight's every tactic — and simultaneously began developing the Zur-En-Arrh psychological subplot that would define Zdarsky's entire run. For Spanish readers, this ECC issue served as the formal gateway into a run that had already generated considerable critical discussion internationally, bringing continuity and new-reader accessibility to the Batman Saga line.

History

DC Comics announced Chip Zdarsky as the incoming Batman writer alongside returning artist Jorge Jiménez in early 2022, with Zdarsky following Joshua Williamson's brief six-issue tenure. Batman #125 — the 48-page oversized debut of their collaboration — hit American shelves on July 5, 2022, with colors by Tomeu Morey and a Catwoman backup written and drawn by Belén Ortega. ECC Ediciones, the official Spanish publisher of DC Comics in Castilian, collected and translated the issue (with translation by Felip Tobar Pator) and released it on March 28, 2023 as the opening chapter of their new Batman grapa series, numbered both as #1 (new local numbering) and #131 (legacy count). A special signed collector's edition variant was also produced for the Spanish market.
