From writer Jean Dufaux and artist Jérémy comes the opening volume of this atmospheric pirate series — subtitled Slaves, it announces its dark intentions immediately. The cover is dominated by a scarred, weathered face emerging from near-total darkness, a vivid slash of red across one eye that feels as much like a wound as a blindfold, framed by a wild white beard that speaks to a life lived hard on the seas. Jérémy's painted cover work is genuinely arresting, making this 2013 Cinebook release an easy one to pull off the shelf.
