A 2013 Dargaud release, Barbe-Rouge L'intégrale #1 collects the story "Le démon des Caraïbes," featuring the adventures of Barbe-Rouge, a swashbuckling pirate navigating the Caribbean seas. The tale is written by Jean-Michel Charlier and illustrated by Victor Hubinon, with inking contributions from Hubinon and Eddy Paape. The cover, also by Victor Hubinon, presents a striking visual of the series' iconic character.
In "Le démon des Caraïbes," the Red Corsair takes a young boy named Rick from a captured Spanish brig, raising him as his own son alongside his trusted crewmates Dreifuss and Baba. As Rick grows, the Corsair, determined to shape his "son" into a worthy heir, begins abducting teachers to instruct him—setting in motion a tale of loyalty, legacy, and the shadow of a life built on the sea.
In "Le roi des sept mers," Rick, a blind stowaway fleeing London, finds himself thrust into command when a mutiny leaves the ship's officers stranded on a remote island. With no choice but to navigate the treacherous seas, he must steer the vessel through peril and uncertainty, guided only by instinct and the wind.
