History

The 2024 series was announced by Dynamite at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024 and arrived in shops on October 2, 2024, directly continuing the continuity established in the preceding Barbarella: The Center Cannot Hold miniseries (written by Sarah Hoyt with art by Riccardo Bogani). Dynamite assembled a new creative team — Canadian writer Blake Northcott, a veteran of Catwoman, Vampirella, and Fathom, paired with UK/European artist Anna Morozova, known for her work on 2000 AD including Judge Dredd — with Northcott citing a mandate to more closely mirror Jean-Claude Forest's original 1960s concept in tone and style. Jean-Marc Lofficier, the longtime consulting steward of the Barbarella property who had served in that role since the very first Dynamite series in 2017, remained listed as consulting editor on the 2024 volume. The series was announced with an unusually large variant cover program — over 20 cover editions at launch, including retailer exclusives tied to conventions such as NYCC and LA Comic Con.
