Polisen Pontus Kask är sjuk och frågar Bamse om han kan vikariera som polis. Bamse är först trafikpolis, och jagar sedan en bov som stulit från handlare Grymtlund. Boven visar sig vara Fru Räv som stulit leksaker till Mickelinas födelsedag. Bamse betalar Grymtlund för leksakerna, men Vargen anmäler honom för tjänstefel. Pontus Kask burar in Bamse som omedelbart bryter sig ut.
