B.P.R.D.: 1948 #3
Spinning out of the world of Hellboy, B.P.R.D.: 1948 reaches its third chapter with a cover by Dave Johnson that's equal parts eerie and fascinating. Two hazmat-suited figures with goggled helmets observe — or perhaps struggle to contain — a writhing mass of vivid green tentacles and fronds erupting from what appears to be a restrained, dark creature on a table, the stark black-and-white rendering making those otherworldly greens feel genuinely unsettling. With Mike Mignola and John Arcudi writing and Max Fiumara on art, this five-issue series continues its peek into the Bureau's postwar past, where the Cold War era and the paranormal collide in ways that clearly couldn't be more uncomfortable.
