“Thoom”

An enormous green fist — unmistakably the Hulk's — dominates this 2001 cover, with Earth's Mightiest Heroes scattered around it like toys: Thor gripping Mjolnir below, Iron Man tumbling at the top, Scarlet Witch swept aside, Captain America sent flying with his shield, and the Vision, Wasp, and a white-haired figure caught in the giant's crushing grip. Alan Davis and Mark Farmer bring a real sense of overwhelming scale to the image, making the Avengers look genuinely outmatched against this singular, massive threat. "Thoom" is a perfect title for an issue whose cover says everything about power and peril with one colossal hand.
