Avengers #22

This 2012 entry in Bendis's Avengers run delivers one of the series' most visceral covers, with Stuart Immonen's pencils depicting a masked, white-clad warrior pressing a blood-stained blade against a downed Captain America, whose iconic helmet is barely visible as he struggles against a red-gloved grip. The composition is tight and kinetic — rain-slicked, ink-splattered, and shot from a disorienting angle that puts you right in the middle of the confrontation. With interior art by Renato Guedes and inks by Jose Wilson Magalhaes, this is a sharply crafted chapter that looks as dangerous as it feels.
