In this 1974 adventure, Superboy and Krypto are pulled from space by an energy beam and brought aboard a mysterious spaceship, where they're tasked with capturing a giant, ray-beaming monster born from a radiation accident. Written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by Dave Cockrum—whose dynamic art defines the issue’s bold, energetic style—this story sees Superboy using a growth reversal ray gun and quick thinking to subdue the creature on a remote planetoid, with help from his loyal dog. The cover, also by Cockrum, captures the moment of high-stakes confrontation.

Superboy and Krypto are playing in space when grabbed by an energy beam and drawn to a spaceship. The commander, Zzerz, describes how a creature they had collected got exposed to radiation, and grew huge with destructive eye beams, escaping their ship. He asks Superboy to help recapture it, giving him a growth reversal ray gun. Superboy and Krypto meet up with the creature on a nearby planetoid, and start the reversal process, but the creature destroys the gun. Superboy then encases the creature in some rock that is impervious to the destructive rays, and returns it to the spaceship.
