Osamu Tezuka's pint-sized robot hero charges straight at the viewer on this 2003 Dark Horse volume, fists raised and jet boots blazing, while an enormous, menacing mechanical giant looms directly behind him — its gaping maw and mechanical arms filling the background alongside a storm of scattered robotic debris. The dynamic perspective gives the confrontation real urgency, and with a story titled "The Last Day on Earth" tucked inside, the stakes feel suitably enormous. Tezuka's clean, expressive linework — both pencils and inks his own — makes this a thoroughly satisfying entry in Dark Horse's English-language presentation of his original manga.
