The rivalry between Betty and Veronica has never been illustrated more literally than on this November 1960 cover, where Veronica gleefully works Archie like a marionette while Betty demands she let go — poor Archie dangling helplessly on strings in his Riverdale "R" sweater, caught squarely between them. Bob White's cover art captures the whole dynamic of the series in one perfectly composed, playful image. With Frank Doyle writing and Dan DeCarlo on interior art, this ten-cent issue is a charming snapshot of Archie Comics at its mid-century best.
