Arak / Son of Thunder #39
In "Beware the Beasts of Neverwere!", Arak stands at the center of a clash between myth and loyalty as ancient, legendary creatures from Barmak’s bestiary are unleashed upon the Caliph. With Valda and Malagigi defending the ruler and Alsind and Satyricus driving the beasts forward, the line between protector and predator blurs. Written by Roy and Dann Thomas and illustrated with striking detail by Tony DeZuniga—whose cover pencils and inks capture the tension in full—this 1984 issue delivers a pulse-pounding stand-off that ends with a shocking twist: Sharizad’s allegiance, and the basilisk’s arrival, leave the fate of Barmak—and everyone else—hanging in the balance.

Defeated, Alsind drops his weapons and they all begin searching for the villainous Barmak. But, the basilisk found him first...
