About this Collection

This volume collects the first story arc of the 2006 Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis series, which followed the aftermath of Aquaman's apparent death. Writer Kurt Busiek and artist Butch Guice introduce a new character, Arthur Joseph Curry, who takes up the mantle of Aquaman in a mystical, sword-and-sorcery reimagining of Atlantis. The collection includes issues #40-44 of the series, bridging the gap between the classic Aquaman and a darker, more mythic era for the character.

In "Once and Future," Arthur, grappling with the aftermath of Atlantis’s fall, seeks guidance from the spectral presence of Vulko at Windward Home. When the truth of his father’s fate is revealed, Arthur must decide his next move—leading King Shark and the Sea Devils into uncertain waters as a warning from the Dweller calls them to aid Mera and her people. Written by Kurt Busiek and illustrated with striking detail by Butch Guice, with inks by Tony DeZuniga and colors by Dan Brown, the cover by Butch Guice captures the weight of this pivotal moment in Aquaman’s journey.
