Aquaman #8
Peter David's run on Aquaman was consistently inventive, and this April 1995 issue promises more of the same with a cover — penciled by Martin Egeland and inked by Scott Hanna — that puts the King of the Seas squarely between two elemental forces: a blazing red fire being on the left and a churning blue water entity on the right, both surging toward him in dramatic arcs of flame and wave. Aquaman stands his ground at the center, teeth gritted, caught in a collision of opposites that perfectly teases the story title "Elemental, My Dear Aquaman." It's a visually striking composition that makes clear the sea king has more than the usual undersea threats on his hands.
