In "Apes or Men!", Anthro faces a personal crisis when he narrowly avoids marrying Chief Tugg’s older daughter, Ita, choosing instead to pursue a deeper connection with the younger Embra. Returning home, he finds his family struggling with hunger, and after his brother Lart leaves to avoid being a burden due to his injury, Anthro sets out to find him. Together, they defend their family’s cave from a sudden attack by a gang of apes. Written and illustrated entirely by Howie Post, with cover art by Post as well, this 1968 DC issue blends emotional tension with primal action in a story that’s both intimate and urgent.
