Three larger-than-life figures crowd this eye-catching cover by Erik Larsen: the red, insectoid Ant leaps dynamically in the upper left, while the dark, chain-draped Spawn looms in the foreground and a massive, pale-green monster with enormous clawed hands fills the right side — all set against a crumbling stone backdrop that practically vibrates with kinetic energy. The story title "The Spider and the Spawn!" promises a wild crossover collision of worlds, and Larsen's bold linework — handling both pencils and inks himself — gives the whole composition a raw, dynamic punch. Issue #3 of this Image series, published in 2022 to coincide with the publisher's 30th anniversary, makes a strong case that Ant belongs in the same conversation as the biggest names in superhero comics.
