Animal Man #36

Brian Bolland's cover for this June 1991 issue is a quietly unsettling delight — a young red-haired girl holds a mysterious black orb bearing a single open eye, while blue-grey birds swirl overhead, a dog trots nearby, and butterflies drift across a surreal tiled pathway framed by a giant shadowy silhouette. The whole scene pulses with that distinctive dreamlike unease that made this era of DC's Animal Man so compelling. With Tom Veitch writing and Steve Dillon on interior art, "The Call Of The Wild" promises the series' signature blend of the uncanny and the unexpectedly moving.
