The issue was scripted by the series' core creative team of Christopher Golden and Tom Sniegoski, who handled the majority of the Dark Horse Angel ongoing from its November 1999 launch. The 'Autumnal' arc — encompassing issues #12–14 — was conceived as a seasonal horror event alongside the Buffy title, designed to lean into the darker, more atmospheric registers of the Buffyverse rather than straightforward action-adventure. Eric Powell, who had grown steadily across his run on the book, provided interior pencils, with Jason Moore on inks and Lee Loughridge on colors. Dark Horse published the ongoing while the Angel television series was actively airing on The WB, positioning the comics as interstitial adventures set between episodes of Seasons 1 and 2.
