Gene Luen Yang's *American Born Chinese* — published in French as *Histoire d'un Chinois d'Amérique* by Dargaud — arrives in this 2007 edition with a cover as quietly expressive as the work itself: a young boy clutching a stuffed bear stands against a warm golden backdrop of stylized Chinese mountains, clouds, and Chinese characters, his gaze carrying a weight that says plenty without a word. Yang's clean, cartoony linework on the cover gives the image an immediate warmth while hinting at something more contemplative beneath the surface. A wonderful entry point to one of the most thoughtfully crafted graphic novels of its era.
