Lark Pien
Lark Pien (born c. 1972) is an American cartoonist and colorist, best known for her gentle, whimsical comics and her long collaboration with Gene Luen Yang. She was born around 1972 and grew up in the United States. After earning a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University in 1995, she began making comics in 1997, quickly developing a distinctive, clean style with soft colors and expressive, simple lines. Pien first gained notice for her minicomics *Stories from the Ward*, *Mr. Boombha*, and *Long Tail Kitty*, the last of which won her the Friends of Lulu Kimberly Yale Award for Best New Talent in 2004. She is perhaps best known as the colorist for Yang’s groundbreaking graphic novel *American Born Chinese* (2006), as well as for *Boxers & Saints* and the middle-grade graphic novel *Diana: Princess of the Amazons*. Her work as a colorist, inker, and letterer appears on 16 issues in our catalog, spanning 2004 to 2023. Pien’s later career has focused on coloring for other creators, and she remains a respected figure in independent comics.
