“I Knew I Shoulda Taken That Left Toyn Back in Albakoyky”

DC's beloved fourth-wall-demolishing goofball gets his own holiday special, and the cover — penciled by Keith Giffen and inked by Bob Oksner — sets the tone perfectly: a gleeful, green-faced Ambush Bug dressed in a Santa suit tumbles out of an enormous red gift sack, arms full of wrapped presents and a candy cane, belting out a mangled "Happy Birthday" to the holiday season itself. The cover cheekily warns "Do Not Open Before December 25th" and teases the return of Cheeks the Toy Wonder, a story about the true meaning of Christmas, and — in perhaps the special's finest public service — a bonus guide on how to spell "Chanukkah." If you were looking for a 1986 holiday read that refuses to take itself seriously for even a single panel, this is absolutely it.
