All-Star Western #8
DC's All-Star Western #8 (November 1971) puts Billy the Kid front and center in a jaw-dropping cover by Tony DeZuniga — the outlaw on horseback bursting straight through a bank wall in an explosion of wood and scattered cash, blazing pistol outstretched while pursuers close in from behind. The cover teases two compelling hooks: Billy facing his most dangerous challenge yet against the villainous Scavenger, and a race to deliver something called "The Magic Thunderstick." Gil Kane and Gaspar Saladino bring the interior to life, making this a fine snapshot of DC's early-'70s Western lineup at its most energetic.
