All Star Western #24

Issue #24 of DC's All Star Western finds the scarred, indomitable Jonah Hex caught squarely in a bad spot — the cover by Leo Manco puts him dead center, grimacing beneath the looming figures of two darkly clad adversaries whose guns and gloved hands press in from either side, the shadowy backdrop of a gun shop's wares making the tension almost palpable. It's a beautifully composed moment of encirclement, Hex's disfigured face refusing to show anything close to surrender. With Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Moritat steering the "Justified" chapter, this 2013 New 52 entry delivers the gritty frontier atmosphere the series does so well.
