All-New X-Men #23

Part three of "The Trial of Jean Grey" puts the young telepath front and center — literally — as she levitates amid blazing beams of pink-purple light while a crowd of armored figures surrounds her below, their sheer numbers making the stakes unmistakably clear. Stuart Immonen and Wade von Grawbadger's cover composition is striking in its simplicity: one lone figure, bathed in radiance, facing an overwhelming force. Bendis's 2014 run continues to find real tension in placing these time-displaced X-Men in situations far beyond anything they could have imagined.
