Though Merla pleads for him to stay, he must return to his boat, the silent bard, and the ongoing journey to reclaim his lost identity.

In "The Remarkable Mr. Multiplier," inventor Thad Merkel unleashes a machine capable of duplicating complex objects—from cars to planes—only to discover it possesses a whimsical, almost childlike intelligence. When the device's playful nature unexpectedly thwarts a gang of thieves, Merkel realizes its autonomy poses a greater threat than he imagined. The story unfolds as he faces the difficult choice of whether to preserve a creation that thinks for itself—or destroy it before it grows beyond control.
