This February 1965 DC war book puts Johnny Cloud — the Navajo Ace — front and center, his flight helmet and goggles filling the foreground as he shouts a desperate warning to "Little Ed" to pull out of the chaos erupting behind him. The cover by Irv Novick crackles with urgency: enemy aircraft bearing swastika markings and U.S. jets twist through smoke and flame while magnetic rockets streak across a battlefield already engulfed in fire. Robert Kanigher's "Flame in the Sky!" promises an air-war story with real stakes, and Novick's dynamic linework makes it hard to look away from the mayhem unfolding in every corner of that sky.
