"Past Prologue" marks a pivotal moment in Alan Scott’s origin, exploring his early struggles with identity and the trauma that shaped his path. Written by Tim Sheridan and illustrated by Cian Tormey, with colors by Matt Herms and letters by Lucas Gattoni, this issue delves into Alan’s memories of his time at Arkham Asylum, his fight against forced treatment, and the tragic train disaster that preceded his resurrection by green energy. Alan recalls voluntarily committing himself into Arkham Asylum for his homosexual tendencies, and how he gradually came to realize that there was nothing wrong with him. However, expressing those ideas led to forced electroshock therapy, which in turn led him to lead others in escaping the institution. Later, he went into the railroad business, but a disgruntled competitor's sabotage destroyed the train he was riding, killing everyone aboard. Alan was then restored to life by an unknown green energy.
