This anthology issue contains three stories: "The Silk-Hatted Frenchman," in which a baseball club owner encounters Napoleon Lajoie at a railroad station and hopes to see him play; "Claws of the Gentle Pirate," featuring the pirate Giacomo Borgia, known as "the Delicate Pirate," who raids merchant vessels while appreciating art and beauty; and a third story involving General Horta, where characters dispute ownership of a portrait of the general—one man claims it belongs to him as a gesture of loyalty, while soldiers arrive demanding it be seized for treason.
